Marina resident since 1996. Manages development/construction for CHISPA, Inc. a nonprofit developer of affordable housing. Served on the Larger Library Committee that raised funds for library land purchase and passed the bond that funded construction of the Marina Library. Served on Marina Planning Commission and Marina City Council. Marina Tree and Garden Club board member.
The Friends of the Marina Library has been a non-profit, public benefit corporation since 1990.
Our lobby book sales attract big crowds of book lovers who appreciate a bargain. We also sell books on our Amazon Page and through other online venues.
Proceeds from our bi-monthly sales in the library (See Book Sales & Book Donations for dates) and on-line book sales support programs and capital improvements to the Marina Library. We purchase new books, e-books and videos for library collections that are available for the entire County library system.
We hold free bi-monthly Movie Nights on the second Saturday in the moths of January March, May, July, and September and November at 7 pm. Click on Events Tab at top to see upcoming movie.
We host free bi-monthly concerts from 1-3 pm on the second Saturday and Second Sunday of February, April, June, October, and December.

We host the popular Block Party for little children: This is on the second Saturday of each month at 10:15- 11:30 am. We spread out giant blocks, Magnatiles, a play kitchen and a bunch of other toys you probably don't have room for at home. A big play date where you don't need to clean up the toys afterwards! Marina resident since 2000. Communications Associate at the Community Foundation for Monterey County. Former news reporter at the Monterey Herald and Salinas Californian; former corporate paralegal. Manages International School of Monterey School all-volunteer run school library. Serves on multiple FoML committees. Marina Youth Arts board member.
Marina resident since 2004.Currently works as the office administrator for an economic development nonprofit in Monterey County. Previously spent 15 years as an independent executive recruiter and before that as marketing coordinator for A.T. Kearney, an international management consulting firm for 9 years. Has served on the FoML since 2005 as Vice President (2 years), President (3 years) and most recently as Treasurer (5 years).
Marina resident since 2008. Has worked for 9 years running the family-owned Marina Grocery Outlet store in Marina.
Marina resident since 2012. Small businesses owner of SALT Transcriptions LLC based out of Vacaville, CA.Self-employed with legal transcriptions in Solano & Contra Costa counties. Temporarily homeschooling young children.
Marina resident since 1961. MPUSD Instructional Aide for 23 years. American Legion board member since 1981. Treasurer for Marina-in- Motion. Volunteer at the Marina Teen Center Breakfast program. Member of Marina Youth Arts. Volunteer at St. Jude's Church. Received Marina Foundation’s 2015 Woman of the Year Award.
Marina Resident since 1979. Accountant for 36 years.Self-employed business owner for 29 years specializing in business consulting and accounting for over 70 companies including Point Lobos Natural History Association, Salinas Chamber of Commerce, Heisinger & Buck Attorneys, Tor House Foundation, Casanova Restaurant, Old Monterey Preservation Society, and the Mitchell Group. FoML Book Sale Chair. Recipient of an award from the California Public Library Advocates in 2014.
Marina resident since 1988. Has been a Roman Catholic sister for fifty-six years. Retired from forty years in elementary education as a teacher and principal and twelve years as a Senior Caregiver. Active member of St. Jude's Parish in Marina, serving on the Monterey Diocesan Pastoral Council.
Marina resident since 1975. Following retirement as an Army officer, worked for 12 years as a management consultant and 20 years as an Enrolled Agent tax preparer. Member of the original Marina Larger Library Committee which was instrumental in funding construction of the Marina Library. Original member of FoML. Volunteers with United Way to provide income tax assistance to elderly and low income community members and with the Monterey Peninsula Foundation to support professional golf tournaments conducted on the Monterey Peninsula.
Marina resident since 2010. While growing up in Pacific Grove, spent much time in Marina at the home of grandparents, Bill and Astrid Lang (see Astrid’s bio below). English Degree from MPC. Helped Joanne Bowman launch the FoML online book sales.
Marina Resident since 1972. Self -employed cosmetologist for 38 years. Now retired. Volunteered for 22 years for Parents of Murdered Children as member, co-leader and contact person, four years as Monterey County District 4 Restorative Justice Victim Representative, six years as Monterey County Victim Impact Speaker, served on the Friends of the Marina Library Board for 7 years. Astrid and her husband were major donors for the construction of the Michelle Lang Children’s Room. Astrid received Marina Foundation’s 2014 Woman of the Year Award.
Marina resident since 1973. Worked for 20 years for The McGraw-Hill Companies, five years with the Superior Courts of Monterey County, worked for three years with the Department of Defense, dealing primarily with entitlements and benefits for military personnel.
Marina resident since 1992. Illustrator and commercial artist for 40 years. Chairperson for the Larger Library Committee for 12 years from inception until bond for construction was issued. Served on City of Marina Recreation Commission for five years. Foundation for Monterey County Free Libraries board member for nine years. Co-founded Marina Youth Arts ten years ago. Active member of Lions Club for 35 years.
Marina resident since 1988. Retired after twenty two years working on environmental cleanup of Fort Old, serving as the BRAC environmental coordinator and the Army’s BRAC representative to the Fort Ord Reuse Authority. Currently serving on the boards of Marina Youth Arts, Marina-In- Motion, the Friends of the Marina Library, and City of Marina's Tree Committee (which supports the City of Marina Planning Commission on issues relating to trees).
